Natural predators

Natural predators may be able to cause anxiety and deterrence among crop damaging wildlife.

A study from Victoria, Australia, monitored artificial perches in vineyards, intended to encourage predatory birds into vineyards to scare frugivorous birds and consequently reduce the damage they cause to grapes (Peisley et al. 2017). Despite a lack of raptors using the perches, the Australian magpie (Cracticus tibicen) commonly used perches and reduced grape losses to frugivorous birds in treatment vineyards (RR = 0.48).
