Ammonium based

Hinder, a formulation including 15% ammonium soaps of higher fatty acids (Thompson-Hayward Chem. Co., Brea, Calif.) has been evaluated in two studies focusing on preventing deer damage.

In Delaware, USA, Rogerson et al (2014) applied the compound to prevent white-tailed deer damage on soybean, or soybean and winter wheat, fields in four subsequent years. There were not significant differences in yield between treatment and control fields, though the average yield was 53 % larger yields in soybean fields and 23 % larger yields in soybean and winter wheat fields in the first year. Hygnstrom and Craven (1988) tested the potential of Hinder to prevent deer damage on corn in Wisconsin, USA, and found treatment fields had 58% more yield loss.
